Eco Recycling

Verigreen’s zero landfill achievement: Surging savings, and effortless environmental compliance attained

Eco Recycling saved £5,250 on food waste disposal costs and reduced its environmental impact by diverting 50 tonnes of out-of-date packaged food and drink waste from landfill to an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in The Midlands. Verigreen’s complete closed loop process converted the food waste into renewable energy and nutrient-rich biofertiliser, providing gas and electricity for homes and businesses. Eco Recycling received a Certificate of Destruction, and all the food and drink waste, including the packaging, was destroyed. Verigreen provided a full end-to-end solution for their food waste; from the initial free audit, to handling all aspects of the collection, and disposal of the food waste utilising their expansive network of anaerobic digestion plants.

The Problem

Eco Recycling was faced with the challenge of disposing of large quantities of out-of-date packaged food and drink waste in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. The waste, stored in a warehouse, posed significant risks to product quality and customer satisfaction. Verigreen’s comprehensive waste management solutions mitigated the issue and ensured environmental compliance and customer satisfaction.

The Solution

Anaerobic Digestion (AD) is a process in which food materials are broken down by microorganisms and converted into nutrient rich bio fertiliser and renewable energy.
Verigreen disposed of the food waste via secure destruction at their AD plant providing a ZERO landfill solution in only 3 days.
Verigreen diverted Eco Recycling’s food and drink waste from landfill by sending it to an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in the Midlands. The AD plant converted the food waste into renewable energy and nutrient rich bio fertiliser. Eco Recycling received a Certificate of Destruction confirming that all the waste, including the packaging, was destroyed.

The integration of Verigreen’s new waste management system has resulted in several significant benefits for Eco Recycling.
Verigreen’s comprehensive approach ensured cost savings, compliance, and transparency throughout the process, leading to a successful resolution of the issue.

Cost savings: Verigreen was able to dispose of the food and drink waste for £2,000, compared to £7,250 for landfill. This resulted in a cost saving of £5,250 for Eco Recycling.

Reduced reliance on landfill: By diverting the waste from landfill, Verigreen helped Eco Recycling to reduce its environmental impact.

Increased sustainability credentials: Eco Recycling’s use of Verigreen’s services demonstrated its commitment to sustainability.

Risk mitigation: The AD plant was able to destroy all the waste, including the packaging, which mitigated the risk of contamination.

Low waste disposal miles: The AD plant was located in the Midlands, which reduced the distance that the waste had to travel overall reducing the carbon footprint.
