Food waste is collected from our customers' premises using our large fleet of vehicles. Then we transport the food waste to a local AD facility where is it used to generates green energy and a quality biofertiliser.
At the AD plant all the packaging waste is separated from the food waste and sent to an energy recovery plant. Microorganisms break down the produce and food waste material, generating ‘green’ gas which is used to make electricity or is injected into the gas grid network.
The green energy produced helps reduce the UK’s reliance on imported gas and power and the AD waste is used by farmers as a biofertiliser. Fundamentally, managing food waste through AD helps us progress towards a circular economy by creating energy and biofertiliser. The biofertiliser is used by farmers to add nutrients back to the soil and grow more food, reducing reliance on high carbon footprint manufactured fertilisers.
All our food waste collections are bespoke to your needs and will typically be taken to a local facility.
In addition to our Kent based AD facilities, VeriGreen has developed an expansive network of third-party AD sites where we have negotiated competitive gate fees.
